Meet the heart behind the brand

What I lived became the foundation for what I was called to create.

I’m Kim M. Waller—an educator, author, publisher, and curriculum creator with more than 25 years of experience serving students, educators, leaders, and school communities. Throughout my career, I have encouraged others to use their voices, express what they were feeling, and never dismiss the ideas placed inside them.

The truth is, I did not always take my own advice—but do we ever?

“Meaningful ideas should not remain hidden, and the experiences we have lived should not be wasted.”— Kim M. Waller, Founder & CEO

The story behind the purpose

Then life started
really lifing.

“Who supports the people who support everyone else?”

Over the years, I experienced the loss of loved ones, close friends, colleagues, and students. I also lived through traumatic experiences that I learned to carry quietly. There was never a moment when I thought, “I should write about this.” I did what many strong people learn to do: I kept moving.

Several of my students—my babies—were killed within a short period of time. Before I could process one loss, I was facing another. Yet, as a school leader, I still had a responsibility to show up. I had students and staff members who needed to feel protected, supported, and reassured. I kept moving because they needed me, but I was also moving because slowing down would have required me to face everything I was carrying.

Eventually, it became too much to keep inside.

Writing gave me somewhere to place the grief, questions, memories, and emotions I had never given myself permission to fully process. It did not erase what happened or bring every experience to a neat resolution. It simply helped me begin telling the truth about what it means to care for others while quietly carrying pain of your own.

That journey led to my first book, When the Bell Rings But They’re Gone, and to the question that continues to guide much of my work: Who supports the people who support everyone else?

More Than Just A Thought LLC grew from my belief in expression, creativity, and the power of bringing meaningful ideas to life. What began as my own journey toward using my voice has become a commitment to helping others use theirs.

Through publishing, authentic storytelling, curriculum, and educational resources, we create work that amplifies voices, strengthens teaching and learning, and helps people feel seen, supported, and inspired.

I believe our experiences—even the painful ones—can reveal something about our purpose. They do not have to define us, but they should not be wasted. With faith, courage, creativity, and intentional action, a thought can become a book, a resource, a movement—or a legacy.

That is the heart of More Than Just A Thought.

The measure that matters

What changed for students?

A strong walkthrough system is important, and it can be impactful. But like every system we put in place, its value is determined by what happens afterward.

The real question behind our walkthroughs, PLCs, coaching sessions, interventions, professional learning, and new programs should always be: What changed for students?

A walkthrough completed is not impact.A meeting held is not impact.A training completed is not impact.A program implemented is not impact.

The real measure is whether educators learned, instructional practice improved, and students experienced stronger teaching and better opportunities to succeed.

If the work does not lead to evidence of student learning, we cannot call it school improvement.
